In early July the 36th motorized brigade of the Russian Army participated in war games

The exercises took place at the Tsugol range in Transbaikalia, southern Siberia

The scenario included crossing a river under enemy fire

Russian top brass from Chief of General Staff down were present

The games were aimed at testing the new tactical concepts of the Russian Army

Reconnaissance UAVs supplied fresh intelligence to the command

Use of such drones is one of the new skills the reformed army officers must learn

The Enics Eleron-3 was approved by the army in 2010. Version 3SB was designed for military use

The exercise started with the retreating enemy destroying a bridge over the Onon River

After reconnaissance, the attackers launched an assault at the left flank

But it was actually a distraction meant to trick the enemy into moving their troops

The attackers launched an aerial assault on the enemy

Plane and helicopter strikes covered advancement of the ground forces

With aerial support they secured the river crossing

Then tanks moved across the river to follow on the offensive

One tank driver mishandled his vehicle and got it stuck on the bank

Military engineers were not thrilled to tow the fellow out

Especially since their primary task was to deploy a pontoon bridge

The bridge is made of several floating sections linked together

It allowed the dozens of brigade vehicles to be relocated to the new camp

Dozens of brigade commanders, who witnessed the games, will use their experience in their units
